Helmet Policy & Release
Statesman Farm (the Stable) requires that each student wear and ASTM/SEI approved helmet, certified for equestrian use, with chin harness properly adjusted and fastened at all times when mounted on farm property and at anytime while mounted on farm owned horses at any location- i.e. trail rides, horse shows and any/all other activities where farm owned horses are being used.
The Stable would like you to understand that while no helmet can protect the user from all possible injury, the use of ASTM/SEI helmets certified for equestrian use and properly fit and adjusted can significantly reduce the severity of injury to the user if involved in an accident. Any helmet involved in an accident of significant impact MUST be replaced immediately as per manufacturer specifications.
If a person is found to be riding without an appropriate helmet, the rider will be instructed to immediately dismount and put a helmet on. Riders without appropriate helmets will be barred from mounted activities until such a time that an appropriate helmet is in place and in use on his/her head.
NOTE: Riders are permitted to wear body safety vests (flap jackets) if desired, but are not required. These vests protect the torso area from impact due to falls.
